Biography
Mary Reid Kelley creates videos, photographs, and drawings all based on her humorous and poignant renditions of ancient Greek mythology and historical events. Her scripts are densely woven with complex multi-lingual word play, literary and artistic allusions, and lascivious puns that burlesque the master narratives and gender politics of war and myth, giving them a grotesquely comic feminist twist. The video work of Mary Reid Kelley and Patrick Kelley has been exhibited in solo exhibitions at the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles, the ICA Boston, and SITE Santa Fe. European solo exhibitions include Kunsthalle Bremen, M-Museum Leuven, and Neuer Kunstverein Wien. Their video work has been reviewed in The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, W Magazine, La Reppublica, Vogue, The New Yorker, Artforum, Flash Art, Frieze, ARTnews, Monopol, Blau, and Art in America. Mary and Patrick live and work in upstate New York. Mary was recently named a 2016 MacArthur Fellow.
