Biography
Myriam Lefkowitz (b. 1980, Paris, France. Lives in Paris, France) has completed a Master in History at Paris-Sorbonne University and studied dance in New York, mainly with the choreographer-dancer Lisa Nelson. Since 2010 her research has been focused on questions of attention and perception, research that she is developing through different immersive devices involving direct encounter between spectators and performers. Lefkowitz’ work has been presented at Situations, Bristol (2017); Public Art Agency, Stockholm (2016); oO, The Lithuanian Pavilion, 55th International Art Exhibition, Venice Biennial (2013); and The Center for Contemporary Art, Vilnius (2013). In 2011 she took part in the master of experimentation in Art and Politics, SPEAP, Science Po Paris, founded by Bruno Latour. In 2013, she became part of SPEAP teaching committee.
She is regularly invited for workshops and talks by the National School of Architecture of Versailles; Three Uses of the Knife, Vilnius; Open School East, London; la HEAD, Genève; the Royal Institute of Art, Stockholm; L'ERG, Brussels; and the Dance department of the University of Paris 8, St Denis. From 2013 to 2015 she was an artist in residency at les Laboratoires d'Aubervilliers where she has deepened her research and started a writing practice (a book, Walk, Hands, Eyes, (a city), was published by les Laboratoires d'Aubervilliers and les Beaux Arts de Paris in 2015).
For two years, she has been developing a collaborative project called La Piscine gathering different attention practices coming from different artists, infiltrated into a public space in use. La Piscine moved from a swimming pool in Paris suburbs to Riga, Festival Survival Kit 8 (2016), the Bergen Assembly (2016), and the Kaaitheater (2018).
