‘Tongue PhD’ with If I Can’t Dance at Veem House for Performance
5.30pm / Organised by If I Can’t Dance, I Don’t Want To Be Part Of Your Revolution / Presented at Veem House for Performance
If I Can’t Dance, I Don’t Want To Be Part Of Your Revolution and Veem House for Performance proudly present the Dutch premiere of the Tongue PhD by New York based artist I Ieva Misevičiūtė. Across one hour, Ieva Misevičiūtė, Master in Political Science, Master in Cultural Analysis, finally gets a PhD granted by her tongue. This solo piece consists of ten chapters each investigating a different metaphoric lens of the tongue, and fuses elements of physical theater, academic reverie, dance, and bawdy slapstick. A pink set with no straight lines transports the audience to this potent cavity where theory and rhythmic, animalistic loops mingle on equal footing.
Tongue PhD is developed in the framework of Corpus, network for performance practice. Its European premiere took place at Playground festival in Leuven in the autumn of 2015, and the US premiere took place at The Kitchen. The piece was also shown in CAC Vilnius in 2016. It is presented in Amsterdam as part of Amsterdam Art Weekend.
